SEEKIRCHEN AM WALLERSEE

State : Salzburg
District : Salzburg-Umgebung

Wappen von Seekirchen am Wallersee/Arms (crest) of Seekirchen am Wallersee
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1716 and again on June 24, 1974.

The two hands are the symbol of St. Rupert, who arrived on the Wallersee in early medieval times. On that spot the Archbishop of Salzburg had a church erected. This church is seen in the left half above a lake (See).

The arms were granted in 1716 and in 1930 transferred to the municipality of Seekirchen-Markt. As these were later again joined the arms were regranted in 1974. Officially the arms show also the dates 1424 (when the town rights were granted) and 1974 above the shield. These are, however, not used.
