Official blazon
German In Silber eine bewurzelte grüne Linde.
English Argent, a linden tree Vert.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted in 1900.

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the village, known from 1456 and 1492 and probably dating from the early 15th century. The meaning of the tree is not known. The tree can reflect the -wald (forest) part of the name, and thus can be canting, or the tree can be a symbol for justice. Later seals also show a tree, but not always with the roots visible. In 1900 the design was based on the oldest seal.

The colours were chosen arbitrarily chosen in 1900.

Literature: John and Heine, 1989
