German In Gold auf grünem Rasen ein natürlicher Wisent; im Vollwappen befindet sich übder dem Schild ein blauer Spangenhelm mit rotem Futter, goldenen Spangen und goldenem Kleinod, die Helmzier besteht aus einem halben, nach rechts aufsteigenden, naturfarbenen Wisent, der schwarz-goldenen Helmwulst entspringen schwarz-goldene Blattranken.

Origin/meaning

Schleiz is a city in the former Wisentagau territory and is situated along the Wisenta river. The arms thus show a canting wisent (European bison). The arms are already seen on the seal of the city from 1297 and were officially granted in 1915.

Hupp showed in the 1920s the arms with a normal bull, see below.
