Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of the town dates from the late 15th century and shows a shield with the letters SP and an arrow. The letters stand for Schön Perg, the meaning or origin of the arrow is not known. In the early 16th century the above arms were granted by Duke Albrecht IV of Bayern, they were confirmed by Duke Wilhelm on June 18, 1537.

The arrow is now placed on the shield of Bayern. All later images and seals, with one exception, show the same composition. Only in a roll of arms from the middle of the 16th century the arms are shown as a chief of Bayern and the arrow in the lower half of the arms.
