Im silbernen Schild erscheint abgeledigt ein aufgerichteter schwarzer, rot bewehrter und bezungter Bär, der in seinen Vorderpranken eine entwurzelte naturfarbene Fichte hält.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 8, 1952.
Sankt Gallen is named after the irish monk Gallus, who was a missionary in Middle of Europe in the 8th century. According to the legend Gallus was looking in the forests for a place to built his home, when suddenly a bear appeared from the forest. The bear was hurt and a piece of wood was sticking in his paw. Gallus removed this piece and cured the bear. The bear was now very grateful as he has been cured, so that he helped Gallus to reclaim the forests by clearing the trees, so that people could settle in this valley. Thus the arms show a bear and a tree.
