Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1950.

The right half of the arms shows the tower of Marienhausen in the municipality, built in the 16^th century. The lion is taken from the arms of the Lords of Jever. In the 16^th century Lady Maria von Jever had the church built and she also ordered a large area to be reclaimed from the sea as a polder. The waves symbolise the North Sea.
