Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 28, 1983.
The green colour represents the agricultural character of the four municipalities in the Samtgemeinde as well as the local forests. The large stone (the Giebichenstein) in the base is a local natural monument and has probably been deposited here in the last Ice Age. Near the stone remnants of a prehistoric camp and workshop have been found. The upper half shows an oil pump (pumpjack or horsehead pump), symbolising the local oil field and oil extraction.
