Origin/meaning

The first quarter shows a pair of scales for trade and justice, as well as a wavy bar for the Oste river. The second quarter shows a kettle-hook, symbol for the agricultural character of the region. These two quarters are taken from the arms of the city of Hemmoor. The third quarter shows the eagle taken from the arms of Osten. The fourth quarter shows three diamonds, one for each of the three municipalities in the Samtgemeinde.
