The German emperors were of the Hohenzollern dynasty. The lower part shows the arms of Lorraine (now in France). Saarlouis was part of the Duchy of Lorraine from 1100-1766. The star represents the shape of the French fortress in the city of [[Saarlouis]]. The fleur-de-lis is taken from the arms of the city of Saarlouis.
