The arms show the famous Dybbøl mill, a famous battle area during the German-Danish wars in the 19th century and a symbol for Danish-ness during the German occupation from 1864-1920. The wheat ears are taken from a patriottic verse of the time : 'Danmarks hvede, Danmarks rug, Dybbøl Mølle maler'(Danish wheat and Danish rye are milled by Dybbøl mill).

The arms were granted in 1960.
