SÃO SIMÃO

State : São Paulo

Coat of arms (crest) of São Simão (São Paulo)
Official blazon
Portuguese blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 17, 1956 and again on October 12, 1977.

The mountains indicate the mountainous region where the city rests and the Phrygian bonnet represents the uprising of the inhabitants of the city against Monarchy, almost two years before Republic was proclaimed in Brazil. The wavy bar and the cross recall the episode of the foundation of the village: Simão da Silva Teixeira while travelling lost himself, and hungry and thirsty promissed he would found a village in the place where he should find water and food. He found a river and many birds and there he erected a cross, brought people and indeed founded the village of his dreams (the stars).

The supporters show that coffee and sugar cane are important agricultural products of the region.

The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bears the motto "BERQO DA PROCLAMACAO DA REPLTBLICA" (birth of the proclamation of the Republic).
