The lower half of the arms and the crest represent the Sete Pedras, or seven stones, a series of small rocks just outside the village. According to a local legend a slave ship was wrecked on the rocks around 1540. The survivors swam to the coast and founded the village. The palm tree is the most common tree in the island.

Origin/meaning

The lower half of the arms and the crest represent the Sete Pedras, or seven stones, a series of small rocks just outside the village.
