Origin/meaning

Rysum was a free independent area in medieval times. In 1484 it was combined with Loquard. The eagle is taken from the arms of the lords of Loquard. Rysum is an agricultural community on the coast, which is symbolised by the trefoil and the wavy partition.

Literature: Leiner, K. : Panorama Norden. Norden, 1972.
