Origin/meaning
Rotenberg received city rights in 1338 from Emperor Ludwig of Bayern. The oldest seal dates from 1499 and shows already a castle on a mountain (Berg). All later seals and arms show a similar composition, but the shape of the building differs widely during the centuries.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
