Official blazon
German Von Gold und Blau geteilt, darauf zwei schräg gekreuzte von Rot und Gold geteilte Krummstäbe mit zugewendeter Krümme. Oben ein hersehender, goldgekrönter schwarzer Stierkopf mit geschlossenem Maul, ausgeschlagener roter Zunge und silbernen Hörnern; unten ein abgerissener, rotgezungter, goldener Greifenkopf.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 29, 2011.

The arms show a bull's head for the Werle Estate, to which large parts of the district belonged from 1229-1436. The griffin's head in the base refers to the State of Rotock, to which most of the district historically belonged. The two crosiers refer to the many former monasteries, especially Doberan Abbey, which had many possessions in the distric.
