Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ??

Rosenthal was founded in 1327 by Mathias of Buchegg, Archbishop of Mainz. The oldest seal dates from 1350, but is probably made around 1330. It shows arms with the wheel of the State of Mainz, with on four sides a rose. The roses are canting and come from the arms of the Buchegg family. The arms were changed in the 15th century when a ring of roses surrounded the wheel.

Until 1972 the arms were slightly different, with thee roses coming from the wheel.
