Origin/meaning

The silver cross is a generic Christian symbol, the blue refers to the ocean of Milne Bay Province.

The first quarter shows a flaming heart, as the diocese is devoted to the Sacred Heart. The conch shell symbolises the diocese. The bird of paradise in the third quarter is the national symbol for Papua New Guinea. The fourth quarter shows the letter M for St. Mary.
