Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1938 and shows as the main symbol an anchor as the symbol for the importance of the Rhein river. The area belonged historically to the Great St.Martin abbey in Köln and to the Counts of Berg. The small shield with the key symbolises the connection to Köln, as the key is the symbol of St.Peter, the patron saint of Köln. The other shield shows the arms of the Counts of Berg.

The arms were designed in 1938 and are not based on older arms.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
