Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on the Wednesday after St. Andrea (December 1) in 1445 by Duke Heinrich the rich from Bayern-Landshut. It showed in the upper part the Bavarian arms, in the lower some (undescribed) tools. The arms were used on seals during the centuries and were again granted in 1849 by King Max II of Bayern. Nevertheless in the 19th century the top of the shield was changed, reducing the arms of Bayern into the present form.
