RAUTALAMPI

Region : Pohjois-Savo
Former province : 1997-2009 Itä-Suomi (until 1997 Kuopio)

Rautalampi Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Aaltokoroisesti kahdesti lohkoinen musta-, hopea- ja punakenttäinen kilpi; kummassakin värikentässä hopeinen raudanmerkki.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 19, 1959.

The symbol in the upper and lower half is the symbol of iron, and is canting, rauta means iron. The wavy bend symbolises the last part of the name (lampi means pond). As the municipality is on the border of the two historical regions of Savo and Häme, the main colours of the arms of those regions are shown on both sides of the bend.
