Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 28, 1995.

The wheel in the arms symbolises the industry and progress in the municipality. The corn cobs symbolise the (former) importance of the municipality to provide the city of Porto with corn and other supplies. The red corn is chosen as a more exclusive and expensive variety. The goldenshield symbolises the walth of the area.
