Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 30, 1979 and replaced the arms below.

The arms are a combination of the tower of the Raesfeld Castle and the arms of Erle. General Alexander von Velen (?-1675) received in 1642 the title Count (Graf) von Velen and built a castle in Raesfeld. This castle became the centre of his powers and thus of the area.

The old arms were granted in 1967 and again in 1970 and showed the castle in combination with the arms of the family Von Velen.
