Coat of arms (crest) of Purhus

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially registered in 1974.

The two swords refer to the battle between the kings Svend Kragte and Knud III for the position of King of Denmark. The shirne symbolises St. Kjeld, who tried to bring the two kings to peace, the saint was born in the municipality. He became a priest and bishop in Viborg later in his life and was made a saint for his piety in 1188 by Pope Clement III.
