PUPPING
State : Oberösterreich
District : Eferding
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on February 18, 1980.
The base of the shield shows two wavy lines, symbolising the Donau and Aschach rivers in the municipality. The mitre and axe symbolise Saint Wolfgang, Bishop of Regensburg. During his visit in these lands he got ill and was buried in the Otmar Chapel in the municipality on the 31st of October 994. Pupping then became one of the places of pilgrimage for this saint.
Literature : Baumert, H.E. : Oberösterreichische Gemeindewappen, Linz, 1996.
