Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1992.

The wind mill blades symbolise the fact that historically there were many (up to 8) windmills in the area. Similarly, the area was an agricultural district, which is symbolised by the hop fruit in the base of the arms and the grapes in the chief (beer brewing and viticulture respectively).

Prior to 1992 the district used the arms shown below:
