Arms of Piteå

Official blazon

I fält av silver ett rött avhugget renhuvud med beväring av guld, därest dylik skall komma till användning.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1621 by King Gustaf II Adolf, as he mentioned in the document granting the city rights, that the town's symbol should be a reindeer's head. The arms were formally granted in 1946 and unchanged after the merger with the other municipality in 1952. The arms were registered officially in 1974.

The reindeer is taken from the arms of the Västerbotten province, to which the city at the time belonged.
