Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 16, 2001.

The arms show the Petermännchen, a kobold from the Schwerin castle. A kobold is a typical German mythological creature. The Petermännchen was a creature that lived partly in the cellars of the castle in Schwerin and partly as a smith in the Petersberg near Pinnow. He helped the inhabitants of the castle by chasing away thieves and ghosts. He also woke up guards and soldiers that fell asleep on duty and performed many other acts according to the local legends. In Schwerin there is a museum devoted to him. As he originated and partly lived in the present Pinnow municipality, he was chosen as a symbol for the municipality.
