The name of this city was "Corsignano", but in the 15<sup>th</sup> century it was changed in "Pienza" by Pope [[Pius II]] (Enea Silvio Piccolomini), who was born in this city and rebuilt it. The arms shows a lion (for the bravery of the city in communal wars) and the crescent-moon (symbol of the Piccolomini family).
