Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ??

The background of these arms is the following legend: many many centuries ago, in medieval times, before the 11th century, there supposedly was a man who travelled through the area. At some point, he found himself confronted with a bear. He fought for live, and while he was fighting he prayed to God, asking for help and promising to build a church in honour of God right at the place where he was fighting with the bear, if he survived the fight. As he did, he fulfilled his promise and built a church on a little hill, right where nowadays the church of Petzenkirchen is situated.
