The arms were granted on May 27, 2015.

These arms were confirmed on June 19, 2003 after the change of Kamchatka Oblast to Kamchatka Krai.

The arms were changed again to the current arms when the city received the status of 'city of military glory'. This is symbolised by the two crossed swords behind the shield.

Several designs of the coat of arms of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky were used on souvenir badges in the 1970s-1990s, all without official status.
