Arms (crest) of Peterlee

Official blazon

Arms : Argent, a lion rampant azure; on a chief embattled gules three popinjays of the field.
Crest: On a wreath argent and gules, Issuant from the battlements of a tower argent, masonry and coping sable, a staff ensigned with a cross formy quadrate Or, flying from the staff a banner azure, the socket gules, the banner charged with a cross patonce gold between four lions rampant argent.
Supporters: On the dexter side the figure of a bishop habited in robes and mitre proper, holding in the exterior hand a pas­ toral staff Or, and on the sinister side the figure of a miner habited proper, holding in the exterior hand a miner's safety lamp and a pick resting on the sinister shoulder, all proper.
Motto: Viam inveniam aut faciam.
