Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 26, 1984.

The three crosses refer to the three former municipalities and parishes. The wheatear refers to the agricultural character of the municipality.

The previous arms were officially granted on February 19, 1958.

The cross refers to the local church, which is one of the oldest in the Osterbothnia region. The rope is a symbol for the importance of sailing and shipping for the municipality.
