OSTROVO (Острово )

District : Braničevo
Municipality : Požarevac

Coat of arms (crest) of Ostrovo

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ??

The arms indicates the branches of the Danube, as the village historically was on an island in the Danube (Ostrov=island). The carp is a very common fish in the river and part of the traditional diet. The bee indicates that the village was known for its beekeepers and honey production.

The esutcheon shows a wild boar with an arrow through its head. It is the historical regional symbol, as it was used in the 19th century as a symbol of the rebels against the Ottoman Empire. It is placed on an escutcheon to indicate the island part of the village.

The Lily-of-the-valley is a common local flower and the mulberry leaves remind of the former silk productn in the village.
