Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 8, 1974.

The arms are a combination of elements from the arms of the former districts. The sword is taken from the arms of the Marktoberdorf district and the stick from Füssen district. The lion is the lion of the former Benedictine abbey in Irsee, that owned a large part of the present district.
