Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1949 after a local competition.

The lower part of the shows a "Oselvar" (Os-riverboat). The Oselvar is a boat design made in the village since 1926 (see http://home.online.no/~aarvoll/oselvar_verkstad.htm).
