Wappen von Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1924 when the town received city rights. The arms show a miner, as mining was the main activity in the area at the time. Previously the local seals showed miner's tools. The trees are a canting element, the name is derived from the Czech word Olše, or elder.
