Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 25, 1995.

The upper part of the arms shows the bull of the Niederlausitz area and represents the former Calau district. The wall in the lower part is the old symbol for the Oberlausitz area and represents Senftenberg. The small shield shows the arms of the County of Meissen and represents some municipalities from the former district of Bad Liebenwerda, which were added to the district in 1993. Liebenwerda historically belonged to (Sachsen-)Meissen.
