NOVILLAS

Region : Aragón
Province : Zaragoza

Escudo de Novillas/Arms (crest) of Novillas
Official blazon
Spanish De azur, dos novillas pasantes, cola sobre el lomo, de oro, puestas en pal; filiera componada, de dieciocho piezas, de gules y plata. Al timbre, corona del Escudo de España.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 9, 2008.

The arms are canting, novilla meaning a young cow. Another explanation links the cows to the arms of Béarn, in France. The Lords of Novillas of the Atarés family had descended through marriage from the Lords of Béarn.

The previous arms were designed in October 1963.

The eagle is the symbol of St. John, as the village belonged to the Order of St. John from 1312-1821.
