Administrative division
Nicaragua is divided into 15 departments (departamentos) and two self-governing regions (autonomous communities). The departments are then subdivided into 153 municipios (municipalities).
Heraldry
Only very few departements and municipalities use truly heraldic coats of arms. Most use some kind of emblem or logo (often incorrectly referred to as coats of arms).
