NESSMERSIEL

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Aurich (until 1977 Norden)
Incorporated into : 19?? Nesse (2001 Dornum)

Wappen von Nessmersiel/Arms (crest) of Nessmersiel

Origin/meaning: The sea-lock is canting (siel = lock). It was used to drain a large area. The bell symbolises the old school-bell. The school, founded in the early 18th century, was the first in the area. The original school-bell is still preserved in the modern school.
