Gespalten von Rot und Silber; darauf drei aus einem goldenen Dreiberg wachsende grüne Nesselzweige Origin/meaning The arms were granted on January 2, 1582 by Marquard von Berg, Bishop of Augsburg. The town was part of the State of Augsburg at the time. The red and silver division of the shield is derived from the arms of the city and State of Augsburg. The three nettles (Nessel), each on a mountain (Wang in the local dialect) are canting elements. The arms thus have not changed since, even though the size and shape of the nettles and the mountain has changed often during the centuries.
