In 1949 a competition was held to design a Badge for the Parera Naval Base. It was won by Ordinary Seaman C.J.W. van Werkhoven with a design that showed a traditional Dutch Sailing Ship. This design was however rejected by the Secratary of State for the Navy, due to its close resemblance to the badge born by Surinam until 1911. In 1970 the Historical Department designed badges for the Bases and Barracks in the Antilles using attributes typical of the Netherlands Antilles. The Chuchubi is a mocking bird common on the Island of Curaçao, where Parera is situated. The bird has a beautiful song and is known for its spiritedness and fearlessness. The Badge was approved 19 October 1970.
