Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 4, 1955.

The arms combine elements of the two historical seals of the town. The oldest dates from 1606 and shows either a heart or a water-lily leaf. In the arms the latter was chosen as a symbol for a coastal town. The wings are derived from an 19th century seal, shich whosed some birds.
