MÖNCHBERG

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Miltenberg (until 1972 Obernburg am Main)
Additions : 1978 Schmachtenberg

Wappen von Mönchberg

Official blazon

Gespalten von Silber und Rot; vorne ein Sponton (halbe Pike) mit blauem Blatt, goldener Quaste und schwarzem Schaft; hinten unter einer goldenen Laubkrone ein sechsspeichiges silbernes Rad.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 15, 1965.

In the 10th century the area became gradually a possession of the Archbishops of Mainz. The left half of the arms shows the Royal Crown, for the former Royal estates and farms, and the wheel of the State of Mainz. The right half shows a spear with a typical decoration, used by the so-called Royal Farmers, a local militia of farmers from the Royal estates.
