Origin/meaning

The eagle is the symbol of St. John evangelist and are canting for the founder of the town, Don Juan Evangelista Rivera. The four violins symbolise that the town is the main center of the production of the typical Puerto Rican violin. There are also many people playing these violins in the town. The escutcheon shows the arms of the Order of the Carmelites, and are a symbol for the St. Mary (La Virgen de Carmel), the patron saint of the town.
