Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 30, 2000.

The tree is related to the legend of the name o fthe parish; when seen from Faro city the thick forest in the parish looked like a black hill (monte Negro). The two storks symbolise that there are many storks in the parish and surrounding wetlands. The waves symbolise the Formosa river and the Atlantic Ocean.
