MATREI IN OSTTIROL (previously WIndisch-Matrei)
State : Tirol
District : Lienz
Origin/meaning :
The arms show the local patron saint, St. Alban of Mainz. The arms were granted in 1691 as a seal showing the saint as a Roman knight, which is St. Alban of England. This was later corrected.
The arms have thus been in use since 1691, but have not officially been granted.
