MARKTLEUTHEN

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Wunsiedel
Additions : 1978 Großwendern, Neudes (partly), Raumetengrün (partly), Reicholdsgrün (partly), Schwarzenhammer (partly)

Wappen von Marktleuthen

Official blazon

In Blau nebeneinander zwei miteinander verschlungene, aufrechte, golden gekrönte rote Schlangen und ein rot bewehrter goldener Löwe.

Origin/meaning

The arms are known from the oldest seal of the town, which dates from 1477. The lion is taken from the arms of the Markgraves of Nürnberg, who ruled the town at the time. The origin of the two crowned snakes is not known. The arms were often mentioned, but the colours are known only since 1812. In 1819 the arms were officially granted.
