Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1903 and again in 1938 and 1978.

The arms are based on the old seal of the Maribo convent. Until 1584 the town has used the old seal of the (former) convent as its own seal. From 1608-1903 the town used only the two letters MB in its seal. In 1903 the old arms were restored.
