Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 17, 1473 by the Bishop of Bamberg, to whom the area belonged at the time.

The upper half showed originally the arms of the State of Bamberg, but in the 19th century the silver bend was removed. The lower half shows the important castle, that dominated the area and protected the important trading road.
